Qualification: Degree in Mechanical Engineering/Naval Architecture from AICTE Approved Engineering college. Equivalent degree or degree with specialization or electives are not acceptable. Final year / semester students who appeared in the exam and expect their results by 31.07.2011 may also apply. Candidates must be in possession of valid degree in Engineering certificate with minimum 50% marks in final year of Engineering at the time of interview and should have secured at least 50% marks in  English language at Xth or XIIth.

Age Limit: Maximum 28 years as on 1st January 2012. Candidate must be born on or after 01.01.1984.

Medical Standard : Candidate must have good health and are to be fit for sea service as per existing MS Medical rules 2000 applicable to sea farers.
Eyesight: Candidate must have good health and eye sight in general. Defective colour vision (colour blindness) NOT accepted.

Duration of Training and Course Fees: The training is for 12 months and fees is approximately Rs.3,00,000/-(Approx. Rs. Three Lacs only) at present. Candidate to pay for these fees directly to the training institute. These fees once paid are not refundable at any stage either in full or part.

Selection Process: Eligible candidates will be required to appear in the All India written Test at their own expenses and only candidates qualifying in the written test will be called for Personal Interview in the ratio of 1:3 (3 candidates called against 1 vacancy) keeping the provision of reservation for SC/ST/OBC in view.

Test Centre: The written test will be held at Mumbai, New Delhi, Kolkata, and Chennai as mentioned in the online application. Candidates will have to choose one test centre, preference need to give to nearest centre from the list and the same cannot be changed after the form is submitted online. However, The Shipping Corporation of India reserves the right to cancel or add any test centre or change the centre chosen by the candidate.

Application Fees: Rs.1000/- for General & OBC candidate’s and Rs.500/- for SC & ST candidate’s in the form of Demand Draft to be drawn in favour of The Shipping Corporation Of India Ltd, Mumbai, Payable at Mumbai.

How to apply
Eligible candidates have to apply only through the Online Application System of The Shipping Corporation Of India Ltd. After submitting the online application form, candidates are required to download the Registration Slip generated and a print-out of the same, paste the recent self attested passport size photo in the space indicated, put his/her signature in the place provided (sign. on photo should match) and send the same along with the enclosures (SSC/HSC Passing Certificate for birth proof, All semester mark sheets, Caste certificate, Caste Validity Certificate Demand Draft with name, address on backside etc.) only by Speed Post / Ordinary Post only (No Courier/Hand delivery) to the following address superscribing the envelop as application for "Trainee Marine Engineer Batch 2012”, Post Bag No.99, GPO Kolkata – 700001, West Bengal so that it reaches The Shipping Corporation Of India Ltd. on or before 22nd July, 2011. www.freshersworld.com
